That’s Hot Glass blocks heat, as you can see with the clear glasses on the fellow on the left. So glass lenses or mirrors are problematic for a thermal IR camera. The early video cameras used expensive thorium fluoride lenses, and recent research has focused on less radioactive elements like yttrium fluoride and calcium fluoride. When looking around with one of these cameras, it’s also spooky to see yourself casting no image in a mirror. IR landing A quick test. A short video taken with my modified camera showing a landing in one of our small strips. This is in infrared light. It was a bumpy ride all the way down so the video turned out a bit shaky. I will try for better quality next time ;-) This is an older camera that only allows 33secs of video and no sound. It could also use a bit of contrast boost.
